Exercise 1

For this exercise, you will be using the following variables:

political terror

Your dependent variable is political terror. Do infrastructure, democratic institutions, and economic conditions affect if political terror is inflicted domestically? Using multiple regression, answer this question. Be sure to interpret the model, goodness of fit, slope coefficients, and standardized slope coefficients.

Variable definitions:

Political terror – A scale for the domestic use of political terror by the state

Inflation consumer prices – Annual inflation rate

Internet Users – Internet users per 100 people, a measure of infrastructure

GDP per Capita – GDP divided by population

Infant mortality – Infant mortality per 1000 live births, a measure of infrastructure

Polity – A scale for how democratic or authoritarian a country is (from -10…most authoritarian…to 10…most democratic)

Exercise 2

For this exercise, you will be using the following variables:

political terror

polity

regciv

regint

Your dependent variable is political terror. Does regional violence and unrest cause an increase in domestic political terror? Regciv is an indicator for regional domestic violence and regint is an indicator for regional interstate violence. Essentially, we could hypothesize that if there is increased violence around a country, this may also increase violence a state uses to control the populace within its borders. Using multiple regression, answer this question. Be sure to interpret the model, goodness of fit, slope coefficients, and standardized slope coefficients.
