see instructions below about a delimma paper

General Requirements. Each student must prepare a Dilemma Paper of not less than 1200 words, double-spaced, with 1” margins in Times New Roman, 12-point font. The paper must address one of the Ethical Dilemmas at Appendix A. Use the Spelling and Grammar feature of Word to correct grammatical errors and misspellings and the Word Count feature of Word to confirm your word count (both features located in the pull-down menu of Tools). Paragraphs are indented without additional spacing (i.e., double-space convention applies). Dilemma Papers should consist of numerous paragraphs, each discussing a discrete thought or topic that naturally leads to the next paragraph. If your Dilemma Paper consists of one or more extremely long paragraphs, it will suffer greatly in readability and score. If in doubt, break it up. Use your judgment and let someone else proof your work. Your Dilemma Paper may be submitted anytime up to and including the last day of class (July 26).

2. Specific Requirements. Formulate your analysis and decisions with particular attention to the concepts embodied in deontological and teleological ethical theories. Defend your analyses, conclusions, and ultimate resolution with clear and logical discussion embodying critical thought. Note that this is not a research paper and “quotations” will be excluded from the word count. I want YOUR thoughts, opinions, and analyses. Summarize and paraphrase the text or other materials in your own words.

3. Turnitin.

a. Mandatory. Your paper must be submitted through the Turnitin link on our Moodle homepage. Don’t wait until the last minute to learn that you can’t upload to Turnitin. If that results in missing the due date for submission, you will receive a zero score unless excused. I only grade papers submitted to Turnitin, which is a commercial product that identifies where your text matches its stored library of other written materials (millions of books, papers, etc.) and calculates the percentage of your total paper matching those materials (e.g., 20%). When I access your document for grading, Turnitin shows me this percentage as a similarity score and highlights both the textual similarities in your paper and the source or sources from which they come.

b. Similarity. Some random similarity is expected and acceptable, but too high a similarity score suggests the possibility of plagiarism. Accordingly, papers that exceed an overall 15% similarity score, or that exceed 5% from any one source, when finally submitted, will receive zero points unless excused. Turnitin shows you the similarity score before final submission, thereby allowing revisions if needed, and you are responsible for verifying that the paper qualifies for grading.

3. Don’t Do This. I don’t accept papers submitted by email (please don’t send) or in hard copy (please don’t offer). I don’t preview or proof papers prior to grading. Students who wait past the due date to tell me they had trouble uploading a paper will not be excused. Students who tell me they timely prepared a paper but forgot to upload it will not be excused. Students who tell me they didn’t timely submit a paper but need the grade to pass or to graduate will not be excused. Please don’t ask.

4. Scoring. I take a holistic approach when evaluating written work and individual scores will reflect the overall quality of each Dilemma Paper, as guided by the rubric below:
