respond to Q & A

o address a math learning disability, explicit instruction is key. Individualized instruction is an intervention that caters to the students specific needs. Frequent progress monitoring is key in this type of intervention. Specific and clear teacher models, visual representations, scaffolding, and the use of manipulatives such as base ten blocks, place value charts, number disks can be used to help during interventions.  Teacher demonstration and guided practice using a model called “I do, we do, you do,” are all interventions I have used with whole class instruction but can be used in smaller group sessions with students who are struggling.A type of reading disability is dyslexia. Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects your ability to read, spell, write, and speak.  It is a language based disorder that causes a weakness in processing phonological features of words ( fluency, accuracy). The core feature of dyslexia is a problem with word decoding, which in turn impacts spelling performance and the development of reading fluency (M.J. Snowling, 2012).  One intervention to help with dyslexia would be practice with decoding skills, training in letter-sound knowledge, segmenting and blending words, and reading from appropriate texts. Dysgraphia is a type of learning disability that affects writing and fine motor skills (spelling, handwriting, typing, etc). Academic interventions for this disability would be allowing other ways to express themselves through typing or speaking. Physical accommodations such as pencil grips, graph paper, or paper with raised lines can be used to make writing easier.
