1.I believe that medical outsourcing will be the next big trend in health care. Outsourcing happens to be in already. If you think about it, a lot of health care facilities and practices use other resources as a part of your wellness plan. Take for instance, my primary physician outsource work to other facilities. Blood work is usually done at a lab either in the same plaza or another remote location, that specializes in that field. “Medical outsourcing refers to the process by which a health care provider, whether an individual physician, a medical group, a hospital, or a health care system engages outside third parties to provide medical services”. (Singh & Wachter, 2008 para.4) Oncology is another specialty that can be outsourced if the facility is not licensed for that type of work, but they are interrelated to one another or networked together. Many are also business partners and the use of electronic health information is a driving force behind most of this. Thanks to the HIPPA rule, which require health information to be protected and accessed by authorized individuals, billing can be done either in house or outsourced to another facility or even someone who works from home, because these procedures can be done electronically. The hospital that I work for, will sometimes process records for our sister hospital, by the same name, that is in another township.

Singh, S. N., J.D., & Wachter, R. M., M.D. (2008). Perspectives on medical outsourcing and telemedicine — rough edges in a flat world? The New England Journal of Medicine, 358(15), 1622-7. doi:http://dx.doi.org.contentproxy.phoenix.edu/10.1056…

2.Virtual health or telemedicine is a current as well as emerging trend that can have a big impact or influence on health care policies. Virtual health is progressing to being used for “remote monitoring, care management for complex populations, digitally enabled self-management, and data-driven treatment and intervention across multiple settings, from patients’ homes to clinics, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and more” (Damodaran & Stacey, 2019). The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is the first health care policy that comes to mind as one that will be influenced by virtual health and telemedicine. As virtual health is used for remote monitoring of patients, it will be important to be aware of what else is in sight of the cameras as well as who is on the other side doing the monitoring. I had my first personal experience with virtual health earlier this week when my mom’s roommate had some sort of seizure and became unresponsive. Because my mom witnessed the episode, the neurologist wanted to speak directly to her. He was about 4 hours from the hospital, so the nurses rolled a computer into the room and the physician came up in a sort of face time video. He could visualize the patient as well as her vital sign monitors and could communicate with everyone in the room. He was able to help create a treatment plan based on what he could observe. Protecting patient privacy will always be at the top of the priority list as healthcare expands.
