A reflection asks you to make connections between the text and your personal experiences to a greater degree than do the other methods. For Assignment 1, you will try to draw on your own past experiences that connect with the text you are reading. You will also rely on textual evidence to develop your reflection, directly quoting words and paraphrasing key ideas on which you want to comment. In reflecting on an author’s text, you are in a sense interpreting that essay for your readers, considering your own knowledge and experiences. That interpretation should explain ideas in a new way, to illuminate the concepts in the text by providing a new perspective from which to consider them.

Instructions:

Write a 1200-1400-word reflection on one of the following essays in your text book:

• “Is Google Making Us Stupid” by Nicholas Carr (335-342)

• “The Dog Delusion” by April Pedersen (225-228) 2.

The source article (one that you have chosen from the above list) is the only outside source that you may use for this assignment.

When you do use it, use a combination of summary, paraphrase, and quotation from your sources, but no more than 10% (125-150 words) of the proposal should consist of quoted material. Instead, rely on summary and paraphrase.
