Write responses to two different classmates’ essays on the canon. In so doing, it will be most helpful:
(i) to reinforce the points they make clearly and get right;
(ii) suggest corrections and improvements in areas where they seemed not to have a good grasp of the material or fail to present it accurately and clearly;
(iii) share some helpful resources you helpful while conducting your research (100-175 words).

According to “the Christian canon and content of the Bible (Bergman, K., 2019),” the bible contains writings of 37 books. These writings are from Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. The Bible is the holy book for both Jews and Christians. When applied to biblical studies, the term canon means the list of books that are in the Bible. The original text of the Bible was in Hebrew and was first translated into Greek when the Old Testament was created from 2000 BC to 400 BC.

The Old Testament, written by a Jewish historian named Josephus, was etched in stone. It was left in its original form and no changes were made as opposed to the New Testament. The New Testament can only be found in the Christian Bible that starts from the birth of Christ and took less time to write than the Old Testament. The Old Testament has been known for centuries and is more well-known than the New Testament because it has been around longer. The Old Testament includes the 39 books from the Bible of Judaism and the New Testament also includes the same content and 27 new books.

The Bible has been a guide for Jews and Christians and will continue to be the inspirational guide they use in their daily lives. They both use it to guide their faith but refer to it by different names. Christians refer to it as the Bible and Jews refer to it as the Tanakh. The Old Testament has a different structure than the Tanakh. The Tanakh focuses on 24 books rather than the 39 books that the Bible does. The Tanakh includes the books of Moses, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Kings, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra/Nehemiah, and two books of Chronicles. The Tanakh and The Bible are in different orders but everything in the Tanakh can be found in the Bible.

The Old Testament also has a second major division know as the New Testament. The list of books included in both the New Testament and Old Testament are know as the Canon of the Bible. Canon is a Greek word that means rod and rule or standard in the English language.It is a list of rules or standards followed by those of Christian faith. The Bible is the true word and message from God to humanity.

The Bible in Greek means Biblia or Library of Books as in the text says A collection of books contained under one cover ( The canon of the bible and it’s reliability; Bergman ) . The Bible original writing was initially in Hebrew and Greek. The Bible ( Old testament and New testament ) have a total of sixty six books that for Christians is consider canon. Canon is the list of the books which are contained in the bible that are the clean and true message of God for humanity ( the Canon of the Bible and it’s reliability; Bergman ). In addition the word Canon is used for Christians as doctrine and their guide for a better and healthier spiritual living… The absolute word of God.

The Old testament ranges from two thousand B.C to four hundred B.C and for the Jewish this is one and only true gospel. For the Jewish population the New testament is a complete contradiction to their doctrine and that’s the main the reason they don’t follow it. The Old Testament is separated in three sections: Torah, Nebi’im and Khetubim. The Tanakh is used by Judaism and it contains twenty four books while the Christian Bible uses thirty nine books of the Old testament.

The New Testament ranges only for fifty years and it contains the teachings of Jesus Christ as the main character of the set of books that it contains. The Jewish won’t follow the New testament because they don’t believe in Jesus Christ being the Messiah as they still wait for the coming of the chosen one. The New Testament has twenty seven books and it contains four gospels, Books of Acts, thirteen epistles by St Paul, eight general epistles and the Book of Revelation. The New Testament covers the Pre-Birth, Birth , Teachings and Death of Jesus Christ. His apostles took over and spread the word for the span of time. It seems that those fifty years were short but it was enough time to accomplish the work which now a day influences billions in their lives becoming the Third largest religion in the world just behind Islam and Buddhism.

As far as Christian Bibles having the same content that is not true at all. The catholic bible contains forty six books and the Protestant contains thirty nine books. Other Bibles like the Jehovah Witness some verses are left blank for their own reasons. In summary not all Bibles are the same.
