Just off the highway to Rochester, Minnesota,_x000D_ Twilight bounds softly forth on the grass._x000D_ And the eyes of those two Indian ponies_x000D_ Darken with kindness._x000D_ They have come gladly out of the willows_x000D_ To welcome my friend and me._x000D_ We step over the barbed wire into the pasture_x000D_ Where they have been grazing all day, alone._x000D_ They ripple tensely, they can hardly contain their happiness_x000D_ That we have come._x000D_ They bow shyly as wet swans. They love each other._x000D_ There is no loneliness like theirs._x000D_ At home once more,_x000D_ They begin munching the young tufts of spring in the darkness._x000D_ I would like to hold the slenderer one in my arms,_x000D_ For she has walked over to me_x000D_ And nuzzled my left hand._x000D_ She is black and white,_x000D_ Her mane falls wild on her forehead,_x000D_ And the light breeze moves me to caress her long ear_x000D_ That is delicate as the skin over a girl’s wrist._x000D_ Suddenly I realize_x000D_ That if I stepped out of my body I would break_x000D_ Into blossom.
