This week we read about Propp’s functions. Now I want you to see if you can apply them to a fairy tale. Choose any fairy tale- it could be a Disney movie you know really well, or a favorite childhood fairy tale, or a new one you think sounds interesting in the book.

See which of the functions apply. Use the number of the function and then write out what part of the story applies. For example, if I’m examining Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, I might write that: 1. Belle’s father leaves to visit the fair. Because Propp’s first function (family member absenting themselves from home) works for this movie.

Remember: not all of the functions work for all of the stories! But the functions should occur in the same order no matter the story.

Write 300 words for your initial post. Include a works cited (this does not count towards your word count) and a word count.
