In business you must be aware of all situations and
always have a back up plan. Many businesses use forecasting when trying to
predict the future for the success of a business. When forecasting the accuracy
of your data must be correct. Predicting the future outcome of an organization
you must stay within range of the data in which you are using.Forecasts become less accurate the farther into the
future one predicts. Although it is a good idea to use forecasting in
some organizations, forecasting to far into the future could have major
consequences. For example, during my first couple years of business I mapped
out the plans that I wanted for my organization. Before I became an entrepreneur,
I worked for a company in the same field as my business. I used forecasting from
the economics of my previous job to predict the outcome of how my business
would run. At the time I was eager to be number 1 in my field but was dumb to
the fact of how to successfully operate and manage a business. Since it was the
same business I made predictions based on the information from my previous
business by way of using the number of clients, what clients wanted, and what
appealed most to clients on the business side of things. When I started my business,
many of the guidelines that I set for my business based on previous business
experiences quickly became null and void. As my business started to blossom,
the laws changed, and I was not equipped to run my business the way I predicted
because of the change in tax laws. At that time, I was linked back to square
one and had to rethink how I would remain in the industry and be successful.
In the future of my success I have learned how to predict
into the future of the organization but not rely on certain data that can
change at any time without my discretion. I have learned to use my better judgment
of situations and have the proper tools and techniques before making major decisions
for the organization. I also have learned to recognize risk factors associated
with decisions I make. Before I used to make predictions up to 2 years in
advance for my organization, but with the knowledge I have acquired over the years,
I now use forecasting only within a 6 – 8-month window.
