Mock Nursing Conference: Professional Nursing Concepts

Section III Core Healthcare Professional Competencies

It is a Nursing Conference! Professional attire is required for the event. This is a group assignment. No less than three students assigned per group. The group project involves a teaching session. This assignment is due July 26.

Instructions:

oRead Professional Nursing Concepts Section III: Core Healthcare Professional Competencies, Ch. 9-13.

oLet’s Teach: Create a teaching session using assigned critical thinking questions and present at the nursing conference

oPresentation: Include introduction-your demeanor, introduction-opening statement (did you know…., quote, personal experience, anecdote, etc.), content-research, conclusion/ending statement, and questions session. See Tips on How to Create a Presentation.

oPowerPoint: Create 10 slides Power Point with the assigned topic (including title page and conclusion).

• Time and organization: Allow about 30 minutes per group presentation.
• Remember to engage the audience and be creative!!! The student’s attainment of the objectives is measured by various tools. These might include interactive game, discussion or debate, demonstration, posters, flyers, and/or other audiovisual aids.

Critical Thinking Questions:

§Watch an episode of a favorite health related TV show. As you watch the show, keep notes describing ethnic, racial, and culture issues that arise. Note who is playing what types of roles. Also note the communication, clothing, attitudes, values, and any other factors related to diversity. Share your findings in the nursing conference.

§Clearly and briefly respond to the following questions:

a.How would you describe yourself ethnically/racially/culturally? Has your view of ethnicity/race/culture changed over time? If so how?

b.Describe the racial or ethnic group to which you belong.

c.Do you think people are treated differently because of race or ethnicity? If so, describe an example.

d.Have you been treated differently because of your own ethnicity or race? If so, how?

• Analyze the situation presented in the Case Study found at the end of the chapter (p.296). Complete the questions to help you solve the problem. Share your findings in the nursing conference.
