Students need to complete assigned reading because it gives them the information they need to write or answer questions about. If you don’t complete the assigned reading you will not know what is being asked of you in the writing assignment. Reading and writing are not separate activities but as two tightly connected parts of the same whole. According to the popular view, when we read, we “consume” texts, and when we write, we “produce” texts.
