news commentary for geo of china course find source for recent human rights and pollution in china 1

*Once during this course – due by 10pm on the Monday preceding your assigned Module — you will lead an online discussion thread with a post about a recent news story about China that pertains to the Module you sign up for. Articles should be within the last 6 months, but preferably within the last 4 weeks. Your News Commentary should build upon and relate to the Module’s theme, for example, if you are submitting a news commentary for the Module on Human Rights, your article and discussion should expound upon the topic of human rights concerns in China.

The structure of the News Commentary is as follows:

  1. begin with a complete citation and working URL for the story you’re commenting on,
  2. completely summarize the story in a few sentences,
  3. explain, using specific details, how the story relates to the course topic and readings assigned the particular module you are posting to, and
  4. pose a provocative question or statement (or a point of confusion) about the article to the rest of the class to get the discussion going. Here you want to think about what kind of question or comment you might share with the class in person if you were charged with facilitating a discussion on the article you selected.

Commentaries should be no longer than 250 words. I’ve posted below an example News Commentary from a previous course for your reference (note the proper citation and specific reference to a course reading).

Please review the rubric in the Evaluation section of the syllabus for detail on how your News Commentary will be assessed.

I encourage you to use this assignment as part of your research for your semester project (see below), perhaps to test some of the questions or analysis you have on the topic. See the list of English-language China news sources for starting points in finding recent reports.

Here are some sources below they can not be the “New link” or news that you speak on. Must find a new source that is good and discusses new human rights in China or Pollution issues in China. The news you write about must align in some way with the sources below. It does not have to be exact just something to get a discussion going about the weeks topic
