Proposal for Sports Franchise Expansion Team in a mid-size North American city (25%) This project is framed from a sports business perspective.

– Deliverable: minimum 8-page (single space) written proposal paper. Cover page and reference page do not count towards minimum page.

Background to Project

The idea is for you (as a major investor) to make a professional franchise expansion team bid proposal for a mid-size North American city to play in any one of these professional U.S. sports leagues: NBA, NHL, MLS, MLB or NFL. This project aims to allow students to experience similar processes and considerations that real life investors face when trying to convince the league for a new franchise team. Such a project requires pulling together the many facets of sports strategies we cover in the course. The process towards completing the bid proposal will help you better understand the business of sports.

These are the assumptions:

As an investor, you will invest $500 million if the bid is successful.

The team will launch and enter the league in 2021

Your bid must include building a new venue/stadium.What MUST be included in your bid proposal:

• – Description of your selected city: demographics, economy, weather, distance from major cities, transport connections, competition from other sports/entertainment, etc.
• – League analysis (cover current teams, league revenue, etc)
• – Your proposed new team identity: name, mascot, colors, branding
• – Your marketing strategies for the proposed team
• – Commercial partners your group proposes to line up and why?
• – Financial Projections for the first 5 years (2021-2025)

For the Financial Projections section, You need to show there is growing revenue and manageable operating expenses.For sure, there is no expectation the first 5 years will be profitable.. that’s how it’s with most sports franchises.

In short, show a spreadsheet (within yr report that is) with numbers that make sense. For starters look at financials for current franchises to get benchmarks on growth, cost, etc.
