The goal of this assignment, is to gain a better understanding of candidate positions in the areas of information and media policy and begin to assess the role of these issues in upcoming election. Pick only one option, either Option 1: summary of the debate or Option 2: background research on two candidates.
Guidelines
The third Democratic primary debate will be held September 12th, and will be broadcast live on ABC and Univision. There will be 10 candidates participating. For this assignment, you will explore and report candidate policy positions. Ideally, you can watch at least one of the two debates to complete this assignment, however, there is an alternative (Option 2) should you not be in a position to watch the debate on Sept. 12.
Keep in mind, this assignment requires some flexibility in that we currently do not know if any issues related to media and information policy will be directly discussed and if so, in what context. It is important that you still complete this assignment by focusing on topics related to media or information policy, even if it is part of another broad issue such as the economy, healthcare, gun control or homeland security. Make sure that you explicitly articulate the link between the candidate position and issues we will cover in this course.
