Service Learning Project: Each student will conduct 5 to 7 hours of community service in an organization of their choosing that addresses issues related to family and/or marriage. The organization may be a government agency, a non-profit organization, or a private business, but it has to focus on issues that are relevant to the course. Examples of suitable organizations include daycare centers, shelters for victims of domestic violence, programs for at-risk youth, departments of children’s services, and family planning organizations. Service Learning Project Summary: Each student, after conducting their community service, will prepare a 4-page paper (excluding title page and reference page) summarizing their experience. The paper should include the following elements: • Description of the organization (structure, history, mission, activities, location) • Description of the service(s) performed and what the student learned from it • Application of at least one concept from the course • The format of the paper must be in ASA (American Sociological Association) style USE THE GOVERNMENT AGENCY LISTED BELOW FOR THIS 4 PAGE PAPER SO PLEASE GOOGLE THE NECESSARY INFORMATION NEEDED TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT.

The SAFE HAVEN is located in COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI and is a non-profit organization which caters its services towards victims who not only undergone sexual assault but domestic violence as well. The organization has managed to provide some services which include offering professional counseling services as well as temporary housings for the victims. Other services which are offered will be children’s program which will cater to the children’s needs while living in the temporary shelters. The primary mission can be seen in the name of the organization which is to offer a haven to the victims who have undergone these great misfortunes in their lives. My possible volunteer role in the organization would be a counselor. The knowledge gained in philosophy will help in inspiring the victims into living meaningful lives despite the misfortune that they have undergone. Furthermore, my philosophical counseling will help the victims in resolving their life problems through the use of rational methods (Chandek, 2000).
