Prompt: Imperialism is defined as power and/or influence over another nation acquired by territorial conquest, economic dominance, or political hegemony … or some combination of all three. Essentially, it amounts to virtual sovereignty.
By 1914, the West had achieved dominance over most of Africa and Asia. These parts of the world were decimated by western adventurers, gunboats, and diseases.
At the same time, the western powers did build railways, hospitals, and schools. And the indigenous peoples were also exposed to western politics, economics, and education.
Who ultimately benefited from the dramatic changes that occurred during this period? the imperialists or the subjugated? and are the consequences still being felt today?
