the discussion question: What factors motivate healthcare organizations to maintain programs aimed at compliance and corporate ethics?
The students response: With the importance placed upon value-based care for reimbursement in the current health care industry there is also a focus on preventative care and the process of educating the patient population in how to prevent diseases from occurring in the first place. Health care is becoming more and more expensive to the providers and the patients and a way to help reduce costs is through preventive medicine. Factors that motivate a health care organization to maintain compliance programs and corporate ethics is mainly placed with the consumer. When the consumer finds out that the administrators mismanaged funds and practiced unethical behavior, they will be less likely to trust their product or service. This is detrimental to the organization as health care is a significant trust that a patient is placing with their local hospital or physician. There is a significant education barrier between the average patient and the provider and a hospital must attempt to bridge that barrier to improve outcomes and remain compliant with the latest evolution of accreditation standards. The hospital I work for has a department whose main focus is compliance as it is necessary to prove that the work is being done to provide the best evidence-based care to all patients. When there is a focus on ethical and compliant behavior at the highest level of employees at an organization that will be transferred down to the lower levels of employees. It takes every single employee to maintain compliance standards.
