As a practicing psychologist, you will be legally and ethically bound by numerous principles, codes of conduct, and laws designed to protect clients, research subjects, and yourself. In addition to federal and national laws and standards, you will be bound by state laws and licensing agencies. You will also need to be familiar with laws and resources dealing with special populations such as ethnic minority groups, the aging, minors, undocumented immigrants, minors, GLBTQs, armed services members, and the incarcerated. Finally, your portfolio should include resources that specifically address risk management.
The laws and guidelines governing your practice are extensive and updated often, so it is critical that you are able to find current legal and ethical resources needed for your work as a professional psychologist.
