The Four parts of the Christian Biblical Narrative are listed from a personal perspective of the Christian faith and how to find comfort in the midst of sickness.

Creation: When God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them he also created mankind. After He created He spoke “it is good”, in genesis chapter 1. With the idea that mankind is good, because we are created in Gods image and that all existence is right where it is supposed to be, creation was completed. The nature of God through His creation is love. He loves us so much he created this place for us to enjoy and to commune with God. In the relation to sickness and disease, I believe God knew it would be that way. But we have his guidance through this life in hope of eternal life for comfort.

Fall: The fall in the Bible talks about how Adam and Eve disobeyed and she eat from the tree in the garden of Eden. At that point, sin entered the world. The world now knows; suffering, death, and disease. I see love in the fall. Due to the fact that God sent his son to die for our sins to restore what the fall/disobedience caused. This can bring tremendous comfort and hope when we are suffering because we have the God of love to help us through.

Redemption; After the fall the plan of redemption was in motion. Through the old and new testament God was lining up His redemption named Jesus. He died on the cross to redeem our lost soul to raise again three days later so that we can have full redemption. To have at any moment forgiveness and salvation by faith in who Jesus is and grace, not by my works but what Christ already did. Clearly, his nature to me says love. As for the relation to sickness we now can have Jesus, if we choose, living through us to help to maneuver through disease. To have the hope of healing either now or in the next life.

Restoration; When all things will be restored the way, God intended. This will happen when Jesus will return for the final judgment. There will not be any sickness or disease when God comes back to restore all creation.

There are four main parts of the Christian biblical narrative: creation, fall, redemption, and restoration.

Creation: In the Christian worldview, God is the creator of all things. Nothing exists that was not created by God. This includes sickness and disease, as well as health. If a person believes in this, then they can be comforted by the idea that this is a part of God’s plan, and that good health may be to come. However, if it does not, it is a part of the plan.

Fall: The fall is related to Adam and Eve, and the disobedience that brought sin into the world. The fall also brought illness, disease, sickness, death, suffering, and an estrangement from God. By understanding that sin leads to this type of suffering, a person may do good and perform good acts as opposed to sin, in order to avoid illness.

Redemption: Redemption is man’s attempt to make things right with God. It is the constant struggle, which covers through the Old and New Testaments. This is Christian’s opportunity to build a good relationship with God.

Restoration: Restoration is the ultimate goal and has yet to be realized. Restoration is the return to Shalom, in which all is well again. The Christian worldview is to get back to this point.

In the Christian worldview, sickness and disease did not come about until the Fall of man, in which Adam and Eve disobeyed God. From this point, suffering was known to the world. In order to eliminate suffering, illness, and disease, it is believed that Christians must be without sin in order to come back to restoration. The stage in which it takes to get to that point is considered redemption. It is the duty of Christians to be good, and to care for one another to reach restoration.

The Christian biblical narrative creation, fall, redemption, and restoration describe the nature of God and of reality in relation to the reality of sickness and disease. In creation, God created the earth and man in his own image. The earth was made for man to thrive on by being loving, kind, peaceful according to the Lord’s purpose by glorifying him. Earth was full of God’s glory and peace, heavenly peace in which everything worked according to God’s will and every creature lived in peace forever. In the fall, Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s promises by not abiding by God’s ways. They fell because they were made of flesh and represented all of mankind and their sinful action affects all of us today. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. This behavior opened us up to physical and spiritual death. In the redemption, God our heavenly father and redeemer sent his only son Jesus Christ to come and die for our sins. He saw what the wrath of sin was causing for the world. There was hate, killings, stealing, wars, so much evil and suffering that he had to redeem the earth. So he had a major plan through his only begotten son Jesus Christ whom he sent to revive the world by dying for our sins and on the third day he rose again and ascended into heaven. According to the scripture, God is coming back to restore the world from all the sin and evil. The glorious future will be that God will come back to earth and judge the living and the dead of all their sins and guide in righteousness and peace. God will completely eradicate evil and sin from all of the earth.

You can find comfort and hope in the light of illness according to this narrative in all four parts of the narrative because according to Shelly & Miller, (2006), “The concept begins in Genesis 1:26: Then God said, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth”. For us to be made in God’s image we must live according to the scripture and finding our life’s purpose. We have to walk the Lord’s path by loving our neighbors as ourselves, being kind to one another, caring, giving, sharing and reflect these qualities of our Creator. God has equipped every one of us with these qualities; it is for us to live by it according to his word. As Christians, our relationship with God being made in his own image is the main purpose of our existence. For us to seek comfort and hope during illness we have to appreciate and understand the nature of sin after creation in the Biblical narrative of the fall. Through the behavior of Adam and Eve, we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God which is why we are exposed to earthly effects such as disease and illness. But in redemption, which gives us hope. God had a master plan where he sent his only begotten son Jesus Christ to come and die for our sins which free us up from earthly wrath if we are obedient to his word, abide by his way and believe that by his blood and stripes, we can be saved and healed according to his promises.
