Debate if “failing to reject the null” is the same as “accepting the null.” Support your position with examples of acceptance or rejection of the null.

Failing to reject the null hypothesis is different from accepting the null hypothesis. In the professor’s example, all swans are white, the sample size is large enough to have confidence that all swans are indeed white, however there is not enough evidence to support the alternative hypothesis. It seems that the null hypothesis is true and can be accepted and one could fail to reject the null hypothesis, but may incur an error. This topic is a little confusing but I think I understand. I will do some further reading. I am interested to hear my classmates arguments on this topic.

I believe that failing to reject the null and accepting the null are not the same. The way that it is titled makes it sound same. For instance, if a group of individuals were in a room together and some one sick with a cold, will everyone get sick. Accepting the null to the hypothesis is if it happens, then yes everyone can become sick due to this issue. I believe that failing to reject the null is simply believe that it may happen sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t.
