The music I listen to is definitely influenced by other cultures. I especially like Lindsey Stirling’s music, which is classical violin, hip hop and dubstep merged together. The Violin which is most prominent in western classical traditions to non-western cultures, Indian and Iranian music. Hip-Hop was from the African American culture of rapping and beatboxing. The dubstep a genre of Electronic music which originated in South London, yet traced all the way back to Reggae and Old School Jungle.

I’ve been really into indie folk stuff recently, such as Bon Iver. Obviously there is a stem from folk music and that has roots in Europe and Africa. Bon Iver’s stuff has a really electronic vibe to it too. The notes are often long and drawn out like folk music but then overlaid with distortion and synthesizers. Electronic music has roots all over the world but becomes its own thing depending on the area it began and the influences around it. At this point in time, I feel like there are some definite roots to certain music but we’re essentially a melting pot now.
