“Rule of Lifeâ€
Drawing from your reading and building upon each previous assignment, write at least a 5 page paper (not including reference page and cover page).
In chapter eightof Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, Scazzero describes four elements of a “rule of life.†Prayer, Rest, Work/Activity, and Relationships (pp. 193-194). These categories relate well to our discussions over the past five weeks. There is communion, learning to get into the presence of God. There is rest and self-reflection, discovering your true identity in Christ. There is the commonplace, simply taking time for recreation and for simple service. And there is community, developing our social interactions with family, friends, and people in general.
As you reflect on these past five weeks, create a rule of life for yourself that will serve you as you move into the leadership God has for you. Create a plan for spiritual health and connection with God. This rule of life should be something you can model for the sons and daughters God is calling you to lead in order encourage their growth and identity formation with Christ. “We seek the freedom that comes with order. It is found with careful attention to our priorities, a gracious acceptance of our limitations and the intentional creation of spaces in our daily agenda… Through the grace of conversation in community and the encounter with God in solitude, we can increasingly become [leaders] of courage, even in a disheartening and broken world†(Frost, 2011, p. 263).
In each of these four elements, discuss how you will attend to your heart and how you are going to invite Holy Spirit to bring you into the presence of God to hear His voice more clearly. How are you going to learn to love God, yourself, and others well?
You are encouraged to draw from previous assignments in compiling this paper. Three to five academic sources are required to be cited.
