Students will be able to identify the Columbian Exchange and explain the role of contingency history.
Students will be able to think critically about institutions (such as the enslavement of Africans in the Western Hemisphere), cultures, and behaviors (Spain’s colonization efforts) in their local and/or national environment.
Students will develop a historical context for understanding current issues and events (Western Hemisphere’s isolation from the Eastern Hemisphere, that had lasted for tens of thousands of years, ended and introduced intense movement of people to the Western Hemisphere).
Students will integrate U.S. history into global history (see item above because the US is part of the Western Hemisphere).
