The passages are

1-Read Exodus Chapter 32: Story of the Golden Calf.

Explore some of the reasons why the various characters did what they did.

Reading context around the chapter might help you to understand some of the questions you might have.

YHWH had repeatedly told them not, absolutely not ever to make any idols and put them in place of YHWH. Moses was gone for a little bit and they did just that.

Also, what is the significance of the anger of God? What does it tell you about God? What does it tell you about our anger?

The Bible describes Moses as God’s “friend.” In what ways did Moses demonstrate his friendship to God in this passage?

2-Read 1 Samuel 2:21-3:18

Think about what this passage means for you. Feel free to read in your Study Bibles for background. If you use any in your reflection please make sure to make citation, like any other resource.

Write 1-3 page paper discussing:

a. Who were the people in the story? Do you identify with them? (You might want to read Hannah’s prayer just before this passage, it’s quite awesome).

b. What does this story tell you about God? What does it tell you about one way in which God and humanity can relate to one another?

c. Does this passage have meaning in your lives?

3-Read Chapters Job 38-42

This is the end of a book about a man who had been through the most extreme of hard times, his friends and everyone gave him advice and then he let go and surrendered it all to God. This passage I assigned is God’s response.

It’s a bit lengthy but stick with it. Try reading it out loud if it is too much.

Write a 1-3 page paper about

a. What does this passage tell you about God’s relationship with humanity and humanity’s limitation in understanding the ways of God?

b. What do you think of the passage?

4-Read Ezekiel Chapters 36-37

Read the passage and surrounding material and think about what it means. It is a bit complicated. It’s a bit gross and weird, but stick with it.

After you have thought about it a little (feel free to consult your Study Bible) write a 1-3 page reflection

a. What does this passage mean?

b. What does it say about God and God’s relationship to humanity?

c. What does it mean to and for you?

5-Read Matthew 4:23-7:29

Write a 1-3 page paper on

a. What did this passage mean to you? Is there anything that stood out for you? Why and how?

b. What does this say about Jesus and what does it say about God?

c. How should this passage impact our lives?

6-Read Acts 2

Write a 1-3 page paper about

a. Tell me about what happened in this passage.

7-Read Romans 8 or Hebrews 11

Write a 1-3 page paper

8-Read Revelation Chapters 21-22

Write a 1-3 page paper reflecting on

a. What does this passage say about God?
