ais 320 the american indian intellectual tradition essay

I need an essay for . I attached files of the chapters you need to read for the text book ” the American Indian Intellectual Tradition” Here’s the instructions you need to follow:

DUE: THURSDAY, September 12 (by midnight via Canvas)

Format: 2½–3 pages, 1” margins, double-spaced, 10-12 pt font. Please do not add a cover sheet. Simply include your name, course number (AIS 320), and Essay 1 at the top of the page (either centered or adjusted left). Must be a Word document or Adobe PDF.

Also, no secondary sources are required. You need only refer to the reading assignments (and lectures, when appropriate). However, whenever you cite or quote from your textbook, The American Indian Intellectual Tradition, please state the page number in parentheses at the end of your citation or quotation. For example, “William Apess brings up the issue of a disputed deed to Marshpee land, which he makes the central part of his argument to the Massachusetts General Court that the state is responsible for redressing the Marshpee’s grievance against Phineas Fish (64-65).” Furthermore, whenever making a direct quote from the book, quotations should be brief, a sentence or two at a time. Please avoid using lengthy block quotes.

Instructions: Making references to the authors read in Part 1 of your textbook, The American Indian Intellectual Tradition, namely Boudinot, Ross, Apess, Copway, and Parker, answer the following questions:

  • A major component in each one of the readings in question was a description of Indian-white relations that illustrated the urgency that each activist-intellectual felt at bringing certain issues, such as land rights issues and race relations, to the attention of the American people. With that in mind, give two negative examples from two different readings of Indian-white relations.
  • Another major component in the readings in question was the pursuit of building alliances between Indians and whites for the purpose of creating positive change. With that mind, give two examples from two different readings of alliance-building between Indians and whites.
  • Lastly, each of the activist-intellectuals in question were great innovators who had important ideas for addressing the crisis of Indian affairs. With that in mind, give two examples from two different readings of ideas, proposals, or plans that were advocated for addressing a major problem brought up in their writings.

(NB: When answering the above questions, it is important that you do not simply reference the same two readings. Mix it up a bit.)
