The study that I have found to do my discussion on is one that is mixed, it has both qualitative and quantitative research in the design. According to Malec & Newman (2013), a qualitative design would be more descriptive in nature than that of a qualitative because those would be more generalized. Though samples are being taken that are somewhat general in nature, many of the samples will produce more descriptive results.

The study is how housing, where parents decide to live, and income all play a role in the healthy development of children. The research being done is examining how this decision can affect their neighborhood, which can make for safe or unsafe neighborhoods, it can change the size of the house that they can afford to live in. This in turn can change the schools, education, friends and role models that the children will be influenced by. Due to the need for the study to be conducted in a metropolitan area and the financial constraints, the research was conducted in Dallas and Cleveland (Newman & Leventhal, 2018).

The independent variable from this study would be the children, it is seeking out the effect it has on children in general but then they are looking at categories, and sub-categories. It does however have appear to also have at least one dependent variable since they are asking for income which can only be answered by dollar amount. The question could be asked if they fall between a certain dollar scale but it is still a physical amount of dollars.

The data being collected for this study was done through voucher samples, these samples were randomly handed out to applicants who were on a waiting for housing vouchers who would most likely be awarded a housing voucher within one year of the data collection starting date. The target sampling is 848 households and a total of 1,170 children at each site, of that, 212 will be treatment and 212 control households (Newman & Leventhal, 2018). This study is very extensive, it will include blood sampling form mothers and children to test for several different known diseases.

As of yet the findings have not be completed but are due at any time in what is called the wave 1 baseline survey, once this data has been collected and wave one is completed, twelve months after that, wave 2 will begin, and if additional funding can be raised, there will be additional waves performed.
