For this milestone, you will identify and analyze a current proposed bill at the city, parish/county, state, or federal level that relates to the issue/problem that is the focus of your social change campaign project. This is an important exercise toward identifying potential legislation and developing an advocacy and lobbying strategy in response to it.
First, review this session’s resources, including the article Lobbying: A guide for move to amend affiliates (Links to an external site.) and then identify a bill that is currently being proposed (at the city, parish/county, state, or federal level) that relates to the issue/problem that is the focus of your social change campaign project. Next, write a 2–3 page plan to influence this legislation. Include information about the current status of the bill, relevant legislators and/or committee members who are championing the bill, plans to persuade your identified policymakers, and plans to partner with community leaders to generate support for the bill.

*The focus of my social campaign is to end police brutality against African Americans. It is centered around the Black Lives Matter Movement.
*The bill I would like included is Louisiana House Bill signed into law as ACT 210 by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards on June 16th, 2017. It was proposed that by July 1, 2018, all police officers would be required to go through training in de-escalating volatile situations, recognizing bias, crisis intervention and what to do if there is a sudden death of someone in police custody. This training could be done in a classroom or over the internet. There is a strong need for diversity training within Baton Rouge Police Department.
